How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Theme for Your Big Day

As soon as you get engaged and start hitting up Pinterest for inspiration you'll notice that a lot of the photos of weddings on there are labelled as one theme or another so let's talk about the pros and cons of having a theme for your wedding and the difference between themes, trends and colour schemes.

First things first, let me get one thing straight, when we talk about setting a theme for your wedding we're not talking about themes in the same way you would theme a kids birthday party, there will be no Shrek themed weddings over here! The best way to think about wedding themes is as if you're naming a colour scheme. Let me give you a couple of examples:

Theme - The Forest at Midnight

Colour scheme - Midnight blues with green and metallics

OR

Theme - Mon Cheri Mon amie!

Colour scheme - pinks, reds and white

trend to incorporate - bows

Now you could just want a blue and green colour scheme for your wedding and that would be totally fine! You can do an awful lot with a colour scheme, but if you were wanting to lean into something that you love or something that represents you as a couple, in this instance for example it might be celestial vibes, this could help tie the day together by having stars or moons across signage or decor even in different spaces.

I find setting a theme for your wedding can give you a sense of what the day will look like when it comes together which some people need more than others! It also helps if you want to set a dress code or just find that more cohesive look when looking at the vast amount of options there will be when it comes to decorations, florals etc.

Now lets talk wedding trends. Obviously, as is the way throughout life, trends will come and go but my best advice when it comes to incorporating wedding trends into your theme or colour scheme is to pick the ones you like and don't do stuff for the sake of it being trendy because in 5 years time it won't be and if you're not those kinds of people you'll only look back at it in a similar way to how I look back at my blue hair phase... sure, it was cool at the time but... shudders in millennial.

If your head is now swimming thinking about colours and themes then give me a shout, I can help arrange those thoughts into a concise vision board for you to use throughout your wedding planning journey!

If you want to see some great examples of themes to inspire you, head to my pinterest where I love putting together boards of different themes and if you end up trying one out I would love to here from you!
